1124 Forest Avenue, Portland, Maine
It’s a beautiful thing when extended drink special hours are served up in a place with delicious food. Every Monday and Tuesday Po’ Boys and Pickles on Forest Avenue delivers on both.
Now don’t get us wrong, the food is delicious all the time, but there’s something about a $2.50 draft that makes it taste extra special. Yes, you read that right $2.50. For any beer on tap, not just something like PBR or Miller. Every Monday and Tuesday you can get any draft for $2.50, all day! Forget happy hour, it’s more like happy days! It certainly makes the beginning of the week a whole lot brighter.
Po’ Boys and Pickles is located off peninsula on outer Forest Avenue near Morrill’s Corner. They feature a couple of our favorite happy hour perks. Parking and a patio! So in the warm weather you can enjoy that $2.50 pint in the fresh air. Doesn’t everything taste better outside?
Unfortunately it was much too cold and dark to take advantage of the outdoor seating option on our visit. So we ordered us up a couple of drafts and some food and snagged a table inside. We ordered up a golden fried oyster salad and an order of donut holes with chocolate sauce. Both were really good. The oysters were perfectly fried and a great complement to the crisp salad. I loved the pickled veggies featured in it, esp. the brussels sprouts. Who knew pickled brussels sprouts would be so delicious?! My only issue was with the cajun ranch dressing. Flavor wise it’s totally yummy. It just has a lot of onions in it (at least my portion did) plus the onions on the salad itself. I don’t like onions and am happy to pick them out of my salad, just the sheer amount of them diced small with the dressing made this very difficult and I eventually had to abandon the effort, and with it the remainder of the salad.
Po’ Boys and Pickles serves up authentic Louisiana fare in a relaxed atmosphere. It’s built a great reputation for delicious food and great prices and we agree wholeheartedly! While the $2.50 drafts are only Monday and Tuesday they are open 7 days a week. Do yourself a favor and stop by sometime. You’ll be hooked!
